Driven by pleasure, empowered by Tenga

The first encounter with TENGA will either be one of disbelieve or awe, but never neutral.

Perhaps this is exactly how the Tenga inventor wants it. Mr. Matsumoto would probably want to challenge the person's attitudes, thoughts, and idea about sex and masturbation.

In many culture, sex and masturbation are taboo topics. So you can imagine Mr. Matsumoto's difficulty when he tries to explain his idea to his peers or potential investors.

The either think he is insane, or very lustful, or even both, or worst. In any case, he will most likely be turned away by the bank when he tried to get a loan to make his line of sex toys for men.

Regardless of how wonderful his idea would sound, chances are, the idea of wanting to make a sex toy commerically will not be a feasible investment.

One way or the other, we are so happy that he had the funds, that he was able to conceptualise the idea and turn those drawings into prototypes and commerical production.


First there was the onacups or onanism cups or simply the masturbation or sex cups - the Tenga RED cup series comprising the Deep Throat cup, Soft Tube cup, Rolling Head cup, Double Hole cup, and the Air Cushion cup. But if you think that these are the result of clever ideas, or some perverted sense of pleasure, think again. Yes, sex may be the driving force to launch a company and commerical production of these wonderful toys.

The reality is that the real motivator behind these inventions is a passion - driven by passion to bring out the best pleaure ever possible for satisfaction never thought possible.

Tenga Promotion Flyer in Japan by TENGA Japan


Came across an old advertising flyer by TENGA Japan to promote Tenga when it was initially being introduced to the Japanese consumers. The flyer uses well-known Japan actors and celebrities who posed with selected Tenga products like the Tenga Eggs (Season 1), Deep Throat cup (fellatio), Black Soft Tube cup, and the White Air Cushion cup.




Sure brings back nostalgic feelings when we recall the time when Tenga was still a relatively new and unknown brand, yet at the same time cannot help but feel the glow of pride at how successful Tenga is today.

More importantly, Tenga has delighted so many men. We dont have the official figures but safe to assume that at least 1 million products are sold worldwide. That translates to at least 750,000 to 800,000 happy men who had tried Tenga. And that itself is quite an acomplishment!
